Galisteo is a municipality located in the province of Cáceres, Extremadura. Its origins trace back to a castrum or Roman camp established to control people and goods along the Vía de la Plata.
Its actual foundation occurred during the Muslim period under the name Medina Galisyah, serving as a stronghold and strategic location during this period and the Reconquista.
After the city was taken by King Feernando II of León, it remained a frontier area between the Leonese domains and the Muslims, becoming the great frontier bastion of the Kingdom of León. In the 19th century, after the fall of the Ancien Régime, it became a constitutional municipality.
