Almendralejo is a municipality located in the province of Badajoz, Extremadura. It was founded by the Order of Santiago in the 13th century, as a result of the distribution of land by King Fernando III after the reconquest of the area.
Like many towns in the area, Almendralejo took part in the American conquest. Names such as Diego Pérez de la Torre, Alonso Ortiz de Elgueta and Pedro Alonso Galeas were born here. During the reign of Isabel II it was granted the title of city.
