Cáceres is the capital of the province of the same name in Extremadura. Although the area has been inhabited since prehistoric times, the origin of the town lies in the foundation in 34 AD of the Roman colony of Norba Caesarina, making it one of the most important cities in Lusitania due to its contact with the Vía de la Plata.
From the period of the Reconquest until the 18th century it was a rural village dedicated to transhumance. In 1790 the Royal Court of Extremadura was established in the town, an important milestone in its evolution into a city.
Cáceres stands out for its history throughout the centuries, preserving great places of interest to visit, such as archaeological remains from its Roman past, palaces from the Baroque period and its various churches.
