Calzadilla de los Barros is a municipality located in the province of Badajoz, Extremadura. Its origins date back to Roman times, as evidenced by the remains and archaeological materials found in the area. However, the foundation of the current town dates from the 13th century, when King Fernando III the Saint granted these lands to the Order of Santiago to manage them.
During the 16th and 17th centuries, there was a significant increase in the city’s population due to the passage of people heading towards America, making this a period of splendour for the locality. In the 19th century, following the fall of the Ancien Régime, it became an independent constitutional municipality.
