Granadilla is a former municipality located in the province of Cáceres, Extremadura. It was founded in the 11th century by the Muslims due to its strategic location as a necessary passage on the Vía de la Plata route.
In 1160, it was reconquered by King Fernando II of León and came under the control of the Order of Santiago. During the Middle Ages, it was the main population centre in the area, overseeing a lordship composed of 17 municipalities.
Its current name was adopted during the reign of the Catholic Monarchs to distinguish it from the city of Granada. In the mid-20th century, the village was abandoned.
