Los Santos de Maimona is a municipality located in the province of Badajoz, Extremadura. Inhabited since prehistoric times, the town began to organise itself in 50 BC due to contact with the Via de la Plata.
In 712, it was occupied by the Muslims and named Banu Maimun, from which the current name is derived. In 1240, it was reconquered by King Ferdinand III the Saint, who handed the town over to the Order of Santiago for its management. Its period of greatest splendour occurred in the 16th century, during which its main monuments were built.
In the 19th century, after the fall of the Ancien Régime, it became a constitutional municipality.
