Magacela is a municipality located in the province of Badajoz, Extremadura. Its origins and occupation date back to the Chalcolithic period, as evidenced by the archaeological area around the dolmen of Magacela.
It was successively occupied by Romans and Muslims, from whom it received its name Umm Gazala. After the reconquest of the area during the reign of Fernando III the Saint, the town was controlled by the Order of Alcántara.
In the 19th century, following the fall of the Ancien Régime, it became an independent constitutional municipality.
