The Ruta Vía de la Plata, whose name evokes the ancient Roman road that connected the cities of Mérida and Astorga, is one of the most iconic routes of the Camino de Santiago. This route was built during Roman times to facilitate the transport of precious minerals, especially silver, from the mines in the north of the Iberian Peninsula to the south.

In Extremadura, the Ruta Vía de la Plata runs for nearly 325 kilometres and passes through 45 towns and historic cities such as Mérida, Cáceres, and Plasencia.

The journey begins in Baños de Montemayor, known for its thermal waters and natural surroundings. From here, we embark on a journey discovering the villages of Hervás, Aldeanueva del Camino, and Plasencia, among others.

As we continue, we reach the cities of Cáceres and Mérida, cities with a rich cultural heritage; from the impressive Roman remains of Mérida to the astonishing old town of Cáceres. Not forgetting the small Extremadura villages like Garrovillas de Alconétar and Zafra, offering their valuable traditions and hospitality.

In summary, the Ruta Vía de la Plata is much more than just a path. It is a journey through time, where each step brings us a little closer to the essence of this unique and wonderful land.
