Villafranca de los Barros

Villafranca de los Barros is a municipality located in the province of Badajoz, Extremadura.

The area was inhabited since Roman times but reached its peak during the reign of the Catholic Monarchs, experiencing significant urban, economic, and social growth due to the donation of dehesa lands.

In the 19th century, following the fall of the Old Regime, it became an independent constitutional municipality. In 1877, by order of King Alfonso XII, it was elevated from a town to a city.
