Plasencia is a municipality located in the province of Cáceres, Extremadura. This town was founded in the 12th century, during the reign of Alfonso VIII of Castile, although its origins date back to prehistoric times and the Muslim period.
Due to the proclamation of the Fuero of Plasencia in the 13th century, the city became home to the largest Jewish community in Extremadura.
During the 15th century, the city played an active role in the various disputes over the Castilian throne, first participating in the Farsa de Ávila and later hosting Juana la Beltraneja during the war between her and her aunt Isabel I of Castile.
In the 19th century, during the War of Independence, it was a strategic location for the garrisoning of French troops.
