Hervás is a municipality located in the province of Cáceres, Extremadura. The origin of this town dates back to the 12th century when the Knights Templar began to repopulate the area after the Castilian Reconquista. In this town, a significant Jewish community was established during the 15th century.
From this Hebrew past, an important Jewish quarter remains, which is one of the most visited areas of the town. From the reign of the Catholic Monarchs until the 19th century, Hervás was under the control of the Dukes of Béjar.
At the end of that century, it declared itself an independent canton during the Cantonal Revolution that took place in the First Spanish Republic. Today, Hervás is a town with many points of historical, artistic, and natural interest, such as the Ambroz Forest or the Church-Castle of Santa María de Aguas Vivas.
